Guillotinecore

The guillotine was invented in 1792 by Dr. Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, who proposed it as a more humane and egalitarian method of execution — the same death for everyone, regardless of class. He spent the rest of his life horrified by what his name had become associated with, and his descendants eventually changed their surname.

More About the Collection

The guillotine, meanwhile, became one of history's most enduring symbols of revolutionary fury and the consequences of hoarding too much cake.

Guillotinecore is the aesthetic for people who find a certain dark satisfaction in the idea that power is not permanent — who appreciate French Revolutionary imagery, dramatic historical irony, and the occasional reminder that the aristocracy has not always had the last word. It's moody, it's political, it's a little bit goth, and it pairs well with a strong opinion about wealth inequality.

GetBullish originals anchor this collection with guillotine-themed apparel and accessories. Paper & Quartz brings the dark stationery energy, Ephemera handles the refrigerator-based political commentary, Shannon Martin Design adds the maximalist decorative touch, and Unemployed Philosophers Guild covers the historically-minded novelty gifts. Switchblade Stiletto, Madison Bay Co., and SUCK UK Ltd round out the collection with appropriately dramatic accessories.
