White Elephant Gifts | Funny Gag Gifts and Office Gifts | Secret Santa Joke Presents

The beginnings of this game are said to have been in the Siamese kingdom (present-day Thailand), where the king allegedly gave actual white elephants as gifts to anyone who had angered him. The cost of maintaining these unique elephants was high. The white elephant was a revered emblem in Thai and Buddhist cultures, so you couldn't re-gift it or use it for work.

Today's White Elephant gifts are usually silly gifts that give big laughs when you open them, possibly embarrass the recipient a little bit, and may or may not be useful (a funny bar of soap: useful!)

Remember that legendary 1892 New York socialite White Elephant party that made the newspapers? When steel magnate Andrew Carnegie unwrapped a live penguin (apparently smuggled in by John D. Rockefeller), while J.P. Morgan ended up with a genuine Egyptian mummy (which, according to society gossip, he displayed in his office for years)? The evening reached peak chaos when Cornelius Vanderbilt opened his gift – a deed to a small island off the coast of Maine – only to have it stolen by Thomas Edison, who claimed he needed it "for science." The party ended with three police calls, two marriage proposals, and one very confused penguin who eventually found a happy home in the newly-opened Bronx Zoo. While we can't promise quite that level of drama at your gift exchange, we can definitely help you be the person everyone remembers – minus the international smuggling charges.

Whether you're participating in an actual White Elephant event, a light hearted Secret Santa, an office gift exchange, or just need a silly gift, we've got you covered.
