GetBullish Launches "Autistique!" Collection: Autism Pride Merchandise
Brooklyn shop creates autism pride line that celebrates neurodiversity rather than seeking "cures," with bestselling medieval-themed sticker emphasizing autistic people have always existed
BROOKLYN, NY (January 28, 2025) – GetBullish has launched "Autistique!" – a collection of autism pride merchandise designed specifically for autistic adults who view their neurodiversity as a difference to celebrate rather than a condition requiring cure or fixing.
The collection stands in deliberate contrast to traditional autism merchandise that primarily targets parents of autistic children or promotes "cure" messaging that many adult autistic people find offensive.
Instead, "Autistique!" focuses on pride, self-advocacy, and humor.
"Many autism pride items focus on parents of autistic kids and some focus on finding a 'cure,' which many adult autistic people find offensive, viewing autism as a difference rather than a condition to be cured," said GetBullish founder Jennifer Dziura. "I saw a little gap for autism pride items for adults."
Medieval Messaging: "Autistic People Have Always Been Here"
The collection's bestselling item is the "Just A Little Touch Of Ye Olde Autism" sticker ($3.50), featuring medieval-style typography that emphasizes the historical continuity of autistic people throughout human civilization.
The design challenges modern medicalized framings of autism by suggesting neurodiversity is an enduring human trait rather than a contemporary pathology.
"The medieval styling emphasizes that autistic people have always been here, part of human diversity that's existed across all cultures and time periods," Dziura explained.
Other items include "Autistic Special Interests Monologist" stickers celebrating passionate expertise, "I'm Not Hostile I Just Have a Rich Inner Life" buttons addressing social misunderstandings, "Proud Autistic Parent Of An Autistic Kid" merchandise for multigenerational autistic families, and, of course "Autistique!" apparel and accessories.
"Autistique" itself – a playful combination of "autistic" and the French "fantastique" – is a unique coinage by Dziura, meant to be lighthearted and fun.
Beyond Blue: Alternative to Traditional Autism Symbols
The collection deliberitely avoids puzzle piece imagery and blue color schemes traditionally associated with autism awareness campaigns that many autistic adults reject. Instead, designs emphasize individual expression, community pride, and neurodiversity affirmation.
These small items sit in opposition to existing products treat autism as something that happens to families rather than an identity claimed by autistic individuals themselves.
The "Autistique!" collection positions autism within broader neurodiversity movements that celebrate neurological differences as natural human variation rather than medical conditions requiring intervention; this perspective emphasizes autistic strengths, community, and self-determination.
