GetBullish Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary of Accidental E-Commerce Empire

What started as conference swag in 2014 has grown into Brooklyn warehouse shipping 5,000+ feminist gifts nationwide

BROOKLYN, NY (November 20, 2024) – Ten years ago, GetBullish founder Jennifer Dziura launched a small capsule collection of t-shirts, totes, and keychains at her 2014 Bullish Conference, expecting only blog fans to purchase the items. Today, that "accidental" venture has evolved into a thriving e-commerce operation featuring over 5,000 products and a dedicated Brooklyn warehouse.

"I was completely surprised that first winter when people whose names I didn't recognize started buying the items, presumably as holiday gifts," said Dziura, reflecting on the humble beginnings of what would become her primary business focus. "I thought they would only be of interest to fans of the blog."

The unexpected success of those original "bullish focused" items marked a turning point for GetBullish, which had operated as a feminist career advice blog since 2010.

What began as conference merchandise quickly demonstrated broader market appeal for feminist gifts, sarcastic home decor, and gifts under $20.

From Blog Conference to Brooklyn Warehouse

The original GetBullish blog attracted readers seeking career advice "from a feminist perspective" and spawned the annual Bullish Conference, which ran from 2013 to 2018.

The conference brought together "badass feminists" interested in careers and business, creating a community that would become the foundation for GetBullish's retail success.

"The 2014 conference was really the birth of our retail operation," Dziura explained. "I had created these items thinking they'd be fun conference swag, but when strangers started buying them as gifts, I realized there was a much bigger market for feminist merchandise than I'd imagined."

Recognizing the opportunity, Dziura began sourcing complementary items from other makers, particularly women-owned businesses, to expand beyond her original designs. The strategy proved successful, with the store growing from a handfull of conference items to today's curated collection of over 5,000 products.

A Decade of Growth: From Basement to Brooklyn Warehouse

GetBullish now operates from a dedicated warehouse in Brooklyn's Industry City, with staff ranging from 1-4 people packing packages depending on seasonality. Peak holiday seasons see the team shipping hundreds of orders daily.

"Ten years ago, I was packing orders in my basement," Dziura noted. "Now we have a tiny but well organized warehouse operation, and during busy seasons we're shipping gift orders all across the country."

The store specializes in affordable gift options, with most items priced as gifts under $30 and many under $15. Popular categories include white elephant gifts, office gifts, feminist stickers, sweary magnets, and quirky home decor that appeals to customers seeking alternatives to traditional retail offerings.

5,000+ Items and Growing

Today's GetBullish inventory represents a carefully curated selection from over 150 vendors, with nearly all being women-owned businesses. The store features everything from Dziura's original designs – now including over 300 personally created items – to products from independant makers specializing in feminist messaging, irreverent humor, and empowering accessories.

Popular gift ideas under $30 include pen sets with attitude, vinyl stickers for personalizing laptops and water bottles, enamel pins with feminist messages, and home decor that celebrates both rebellion and self-care.

The anniversary milestone comes as GetBullish continues expanding its offerings while maintaining its core mission of providing affordable, value-driven gifts that support independent makers and feminist principles.

"The store may have started a little bit by accident, but its growth reflects real demand for gifts that mean something," Dziura said. "We're excited to see what the next ten years bring."
